on the Tryweryn 5th - 6th April Just after easter every year Frome Canoe club heads for Wales and the Tryweryn for some fun on this man enhanced river. The Tryweryn was a natural river until Liverpool city council built a great big dam across it in the 1960's to ensure that there was water to drink in the city. This dam whilst rather unpopular with the residents living upstream of it (those who homes are now under water!) does have some benefits for those living outside of Liverpool in the form of Canolfan Tryweryn. Started in 1972 Canolfan Tryweryn manage 8km of the river allowing kayaking and canoeing to take place year round. The Tryweryn works when there is water released from the dam, the more water that is released the harder the river becomes. there are to sections of the Tryweryn, the upper and the lower. The upper section ranges from grade 3 at a low release to grade 4 on a high release. the lower section from grade 2 to grade 3.

When Frome Canoe Club go on this trip we tend to run the top section and the bottom section on the first day which allows all members of the group to take part in the paddling then depending on how the group have got on the day before run either just use the upper section or do the same as the day before. The Tryweryn is a great training facility, having lots of different sections that you can do time and time again with ease until you are happy with them, then you can use a different route. This is not a trip for a beginner but if you have been on the Dart loop and enjoyed it then you'll enjoy the Tryweryn.
