Recreational Paddling
Frome Canoe Club meets up to twice a week for recreational paddling sessions. During these sessions we don't arrange any formal training towards BCU star tests, however if you've never paddled before there is always an instructor there to help you get going. Providing the instructor is not assisting a new starter they will also help you if there is a specific skill that you wish to learn, just give them a shout. (Please don't expect a full session to yourself or to learn all the skills needed to pass a test - We have plenty of courses for that).

Costs

River sessions ~ Club members £2 Non members (Taster sessions - non member £5 adult, £4 child)

We recognize that if you have a large family this can soon mount up so have introduce a capping system whereby family members pay a maximum of £6 per session. This flat fee only covers family members named on you membership form so if you bring some friends along they will have to pay the standard rate.

Pool Sessions ~ Club Members Adults £3 Youth £2.50 (Taster sessions - non member £5 adult, £4 child)

Wednesday night market yard sessions - 7 till 9 (or sunset which ever is earlier) (mid April - early September).
At these sessions we have several different things you can choose from.

i ~ Paddle power - a program design just for our younger members designed to get them in to the swing of things - runs from 7 till 8 be ready to get on for 7.

ii ~ Polo ~ Horse power is not required in this fast moving game of skill and tactics, er well the fast moving bit is correct some times but skill and tactics don't come into the version that we play. Due to training limitations (and not being totally sure of the correct rules) we have developed our own set for our games here, these can be modified at will as the game progresses ~ Runs from 7 till 8ish be ready to get on the water for 7.

iii ~ Slalom ~ Training with John, our resident slalom guru you can learn the skills required to compete successfully in this olympic discipline. Want to get an all expenses trip to London in 2012? well practice hard and you never know ~ Runs from 7 till 8ish be ready to get on the water for 7.

iv ~ General paddling. If you don't feel like any of the above sessions this is the one or if you're new to this paddling lark and want some coaching (being a little to old for paddle power) hop on to this session. Running from 7:30 till 9 (or sunset) paddlers from other sessions are welcome to join in with this one as their sessions finish.

Friday evening Langham farm sessions 7pm - 9pm (or sunset) (April - early September)

A evenings paddle at the end of the week can be a great way to relax into the weekend and wind right down, or if playing is your thing then wind up with a few squirts, cartwheels and damp moments above the bridge.

Langham is a moving water site so paddlers must be of at least 1 star standard to come along. Coaches are not always present at these sessions. if there is no coach then under 18's may be unable to paddle. We keep a very very limited amount of kit at Langham. if you do want to use this we recommend that you book it with Pip before hand.

When driving down to Langham please note that the track is very bumpy, so go slow or risk damaging you car.

Please follow the countryside code when at Langham.

Pool sessions. Fridays 9pm - 10pm (mid September - Early April)

The pool is a great place to learn the strokes that involve getting wet, rolling sculling, support strokes etc. the water is clear and warm meaning instructors have fewer issues getting into help you (the instructor may need coaxing in moaning that the water is still to cold, if they do just drag them in)

Although the session lasts for an hour we are limited to the number of boats we are allowed in the pool at any time. If there are more paddlers than this we divide the session up into 15 minutes slots identified by bands. Over the 2005 - 2006 pool season almost every week each paddler got 1/2hours paddling time.
