Langham Farm Slalom

2008 Dates - 31st May & 1st June

Once a year Frome Canoe Club hosts two BCU national division 3/4 slaloms over the course of a weekend at their Langham Farm white water site near Frome.

Frome Canoe Club slaloms at Langham Farm are friendly affairs where you can compete and have a good time.
Canoe slalom is an Olympic event, which at all levels, provides an exciting spectacle to watch and compete in. The Langham Farm Slaloms take place at the lowest national competitive level, with novices slalom paddlers competing in division 4. The winners at this level get promoted to division 3 where competition is fiercer.
Slalom races take place through 20 ‘gates’ formed by poles hanging above the river over a distance of about 200m. Competitors race through these gates doing their best not to touch them. Should a competitor touch a gate then a 2 second penalty is added to their total time. Missing a gate completely gains a 50 second penalty. If a competitor hits a gate before completing a previous one then the previous gates not completed are considered to have been missed.

The Slalom Site

Langham Farm Slalom is set in the countryside, several miles away from civilisation: it is a beautiful, tranquil place. Our course is set on an attractive part of the River Frome and includes a sharp turn under a bridge where the flow of water can be fast and challenging. The river level does fluctuate considerably in response to rainfall and so the competitions do vary - phone or e-mail us in advance if you want up to date information.
