Inside Frome Canoe Club A vibrant bustling club. Frome Canoe Club was established in 1976 by a group of paddlers living locally. With significantly more recreational paddlers than competitive paddlers in the membership there tends to be a trip to a river or the sea every other weekend. Courses run during the spring and summer months with training sessions on weekday evenings. It doesn't matter if you don't know what a kayak is and a canoe looks like a shrunken rowing boat. When you first turn up at Frome Canoe Club you'll be met experienced paddlers and coaches who'll guide you through those first paddle strokes that will seem so strange. Learning to paddle opens up a whole range of trips and adventures that you can take part in with Frome Canoe Club, with gentle trips down the local rivers and training weekends on the Wye and the Exe ideal for those just starting up, and trips to some of the best rivers in Europe, Scotland, Wales and the South West of England for those who have been paddling a little longer. May
2007 saw the opening of a fantastic new purpose built club house, complete
with a meeting room, changing facilities, kit drying room and boat store.
The completion of this project has seen a boom in the club membership. |

"A fantastic new purpose built club house" Once a year Frome Canoe Club organise a national slalom event attracting competitors from all over the South West, South, Midlands and Wales. Despite not being a competitive club, Frome is one of the biggest slalom clubs in the region. At
Frome Canoe Club it's not all about who can paddle the biggest rapid or
pull off the newest trick, but the enjoyment of paddling, be that on a
gentle canal, a fearsome rapid, testing your skills against the clock
at slalom or shooting across a wave down at the beach. The key phrase
is HAVING FUN. |
